Have written longish orchestral piece, some of it has a very baroque feel. I'm pretty familiar with Bach, Purcell, etc., but any suggestions about how to check that I haven't unwittingly made use of an earlier theme? Is there a standard procedure, or do I just find someone extremely knowledgable? Proving a negative is pretty difficult...

Any help appreciated!

Just have to find someone with a solid background in music. I worked at a recording studio for years and used to always catch clients unwittingly infringing on copyright. If I thought the song was going somewhere I would let them know. But most of the time the songs go nowhere so I would just shut up.

Many famous composers have mistakenly lifted material from other composers, hence the saying: Good composers write, Great composers steal!
