Hello everyone!
My name is Rachel and I'm a fairly new composer, although I've been a huge fan of the greats since I was a little kid. I'm currently fooling around with arrangements (with a little help from a drum major) and it's going pretty well... I am looking for a great baton and wondered if anyone had some suggestions?

I am also a fairly new composer, with almost no knowledge of... composition.

But I have been playing violin for 7 1/2 years.

My name is Gabriel Rockman, I'm a 20 year old guitar player, but I listen mainly to classical music (even though I have only half a year's worth of music theory training, taken in highschool). I'm a math major, with a focus in political science, and a likely career in political science as well.

My guitar style is of improvising, but with self-taught music theory knowledge backing up what I do, with occasional composition of pieces. My tonal music is generally doubled in 6ths, 10ths, or 13ths, although I often double in 7ths or 9ths to get a more dissonant sound. I especially like major 7ths and minor 9ths. I often lapse into atonality, using the embedded augmented triad or embeded diminished scale inside the harmonic minor scale as a means of going back and forth between tonality and atonality. I play bass lines & melody at the same time, and I am trying to learn to play three notes at once. The technique is not the problem, but concentrating on playing three separate lines of music at once is tough - I wasn't trained in piano ever.

I listen primarily to 20th Century Eastern European classical music. It goes along well with my interest in the Eastern Europe political environment in the post-Communist era. Sibelius, Rachmaninoff and Shostakovich got me initially interested in 20th century Eastern European music, and I've found that other composers such as Schnittke and Khachaturian are also quite to my liking.

It is hard trying to learn about composers that lived under Communism, especially those that are still alive. They are really not mainstreamed at all among classical music listeners. I've recently begun blindly buying CDs of composers that are still alive, such as Part, Kancheli, Rautavaara, Gubaidulina, Ustvolskaya, Tishchenko, and Gorecki. I'm hoping sometime to meet someone who knows more about this music than I do.

I know that I have talent in improvising and composing, but I have very little training in music theory, so I don't feel comfortable composing. I would love to work on composing music in polyphony for guitar - the bass in one key and the melody in an unrelated key. My style is best described as dissonant classical guitar, pretty much an oxymoron - all the classical guitar I've heard is very harmonic and NOT dissonant.

I don't really know many people who listen to classical music, and far less who actually know anything about it. It'll be nice to be able to discuss stuff with the few people here, even if the music they listen to is very different from what I listen to.

Hi,
new here. I own and write for an Indonesian Gamelan orchestra set. I have been playing all the instruments myself on mock up recordings to hear what my stuff sounds like. I've got more than 13 pieces posted on Broadjam http://www.broadjam.com/artists/artistindex.asp?artistID=18238 I'm working with Aparna Panshikar. She's a vocalist from India who was world music artist of the year in South Korea two years ago which, by the way, is where I live. But I'm an American. I also work with a foreign Sarangi player and will soon be working with a foreign tabla player as well. I used to teach junior high school jazz band in America too. Nice to meet you. I'll be in touch.

lyrics...

I always run back to you cause it feels so right, the warmth that i get it reminds me , your in my dreams every night and when i wake up each day making my mornings good, it's the same things all over again, and my thoughts are that's when i wish i could...
be the one you wrap those arms of your around , be the one I'll never aim to let you down, be the one cause my heart tells me thats it's true,
be the one my soul claims it always knew,
passing days away dreaming like i do , the joy they bring keeps me thinking just of you a higher feeling girl like i never knew,
thats why i'm wanting to...
be the one you wrap those arms of your around . be the one i'll never aim to let you down , be the one cause my heart tells methat it's true , be the one my soul claims it alwys knew....
